Sowore Accompanies Lagos Corps Member to NYSC Office Amid Viral Video Controversy

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore on Monday escorted a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Ushie Rita Uguamaye, popularly known as Raye, to the NYSC Local Government Inspector (LGI) office in Eti-Osa, Lagos.

Uguamaye has been in the spotlight after a video she posted on TikTok went viral. In the video, she spoke about the rising cost of food in Nigeria and criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration over the situation.

Following the video’s circulation, the corps member claimed she was being threatened by NYSC officials and was asked to appear at the LGI’s office in Eti-Osa on Monday, March 17, at 10 a.m. Concerned about her safety, she arrived at the office with Sowore and a team of lawyers.

However, Sowore later stated on X (formerly Twitter) that the LGI did not show up for the meeting.

“We arrived Eti-Osa LGI offices of the @officialnyscng with youth Corper, Ushie Rita Uguamaye in Lagos. She was scheduled to appear before the LGI today and we escorted her to their offices with attorneys,” Sowore wrote.

“@mrfestusogun, @yinka_oyesomi and @justiceojienoh but LGI official had absconded failing to show up throughout our stay.”
