Super Eagles and Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has been hit by another personal loss, as he announced the passing of his mother just two months after losing his father.
The South Africa-based footballer shared the devastating news on New Year’s Day through his X account, expressing his pain.
“Rip mom, worst year of my life already,” he wrote, accompanied by tearful and heartbreak emojis. In a separate post, he lamented, “A very very crazy world indeed.”
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) extended their condolences to the player, writing, “Our heartfelt condolences to Stanley Nwabali on the loss of his mother. Stay strong, Stanley. Sending you strength and support during this difficult time. You are not alone; we are all with you.”
Nwabali had previously experienced a significant loss in November when his father passed away shortly after he helped the Super Eagles secure a 1-1 draw against the Benin Republic in a 2025 AFCON qualifying match.
While the cause of his mother’s death has not been disclosed, the news came as a shock, especially after Nwabali had shared an optimistic message just hours earlier.
Reflecting on 2024, he wrote, “2024 was a good year, we’re doubling everything in 2025. Thank you Chippa United FC. Thank you Super Eagles. Thanks to all my fans. Let’s do more!”
