Supporters of Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, have raised concerns over an alleged plan by some political rivals from Rivers State to fund a protest against the government in Abuja.
This protest, expected to involve members of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), is said to be intended to question recent legal rulings and disrupt public confidence.
The group behind this allegation, known as “Wike Generation Next,” claims that the proposed protest is aimed at stirring public distrust toward recent court judgments related to Rivers State’s appropriation bill and the leadership decisions in the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The supporters insist that the rulings were fair and that any public opposition is an attempt to undermine both the judiciary and the efforts of President Bola Tinubu to address ongoing political issues within the state.
According to the group’s spokesperson, Okazu Powers, these opponents are allegedly using the protest to sway public opinion against the judiciary’s independent decisions. He commented, “This protest is aimed at casting doubt on the judiciary’s integrity and the government’s efforts in resolving the crisis.”
Powers emphasized that such actions would not deter the judiciary from standing firm on the principles of justice. He advised those allegedly involved to use their resources more constructively by focusing on the development of Rivers State rather than trying to create unrest.
