Panic has taken over the Rest House area of Kadarko, in Keana Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, after a suspected attack by Fulani militias left one man dead and a police officer badly wounded.
The tragic event took place late Tuesday night, July 9, 2025, around 10:45 p.m. Eyewitnesses said the attackers arrived in the dark and began shooting without warning. The sound of gunfire caused people to wake up in fear and run for safety, while the assailants moved deeper into the community.
The victim of the attack was a well-known local, Mr. Nyianshima, fondly called “Iron Money” by many in the area. He lost his life during the shooting. A mobile policeman, who was posted to a checkpoint near the scene, was also hit by bullets and is currently being treated at an undisclosed medical facility.
Residents noted that the quick reaction from nearby security personnel helped reduce the scale of the attack. “When the gunshots started, people woke up in fear and ran for their lives,” a witness said. “The security men faced the attackers, giving people a chance to escape.”
This latest assault has stirred up renewed anger and fear in the community, which locals say has often been a target. “This is not the first time. Each time there is a clash involving Fulanis in Benue, they return to attack us here in Kadarko, Dooka, Angwan Yaara, and Dooga. Our farmlands have been taken over, and now we are being hunted,” another resident explained.
The situation has sparked fresh calls for help. A community leader named Aondohemba has urged both the state government and security officials to take serious action. “We cannot continue to live in fear in our own land,” he stated.
