Suspected Herdsmen Kill Over 25 in Attack on Edikwu Ankpali, Benue

No fewer than 25 people have died after suspected herdsmen attacked Edikwu Ankpali community in Apa Local Government Area of Benue State.

According to reports gathered, the attackers arrived around 6 p.m., catching the villagers off guard. They opened fire on residents, causing widespread panic and devastation. The situation quickly turned deadly, with many villagers either killed or abducted during the assault.

A local resident named Vincent told reporters, “The community was completely overrun by the armed attackers.” This shows how sudden and overwhelming the attack was for the people living there.

In addition to the loss of lives, several other residents remain missing after being taken by the attackers. Authorities are still working to confirm the exact number of people abducted and to locate those who are missing.

This attack is not an isolated incident, as similar violent events have been reported recently in Benue State. For example, gunmen suspected to be herdsmen hijacked a fully loaded commercial vehicle along the Otukpo-Adoka road.

During that incident, the driver was killed and several passengers were abducted, further dding to the growing insecurity in the region.
