TCN Announces Seven-Hour Power Outage in Parts of Abuja

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned power outage in several parts of Abuja. The outage will last for seven hours each day on Saturday, February 22, and Sunday, February 23, 2025. This is due to scheduled maintenance work on two transformers at the Apo 132/33kV Transmission Substation.

In a statement released by TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, on Friday, the company noted that the maintenance would take place from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on both days. The preventive maintenance aims to ensure the efficiency and reliability of the power supply system.

As a result of the work, some areas in Abuja will experience power interruptions. The statement read, “The Transmission Company of Nigeria informs the public that its maintenance crew will conduct annual preventive maintenance on the 2x100MVA, TR3 & TR4 transformers at the Apo 132/33kV Transmission Substation in Abuja.”

TCN also noted that during the maintenance period, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (Abuja DisCo) will not be able to receive bulk power supply from the affected transformers. This means that residents and businesses in the impacted areas will be without electricity until the maintenance is completed each day. However, TCN assured that power would be restored immediately after the maintenance work is finished.

On Saturday, February 22, the areas expected to experience power disruptions include the National Hospital, G2 Injection Station, Garki, Area 1, and Asokoro. These locations rely on power from the Apo transmission substation and will be affected for the scheduled seven-hour duration.
