Tenant Killed by Landlord’s Son During Dispute in Ondo

A heated argument between a tenant and the landlord’s son ended in tragedy after 22-year-old Joy Tale was reportedly killed in Ode-Irele, a town in Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State. The suspect, identified as 41-year-old Odunayo Olomolatan, is currently in police custody.

According to reports from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the fatal incident occurred on Monday, May 5, 2025. Witnesses say that what started as a verbal disagreement escalated quickly, leading to a violent confrontation. Joy Tale was allegedly attacked and hacked to death during the dispute.

The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the suspect. The command’s spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, stated that the suspect is being held at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Ode-Irele.

“Yes, I can confirm to you that the lady was allegedly hacked to death during an argument between her and her landlord’s son. The suspect has been arrested and investigation is ongoing to unravel circumstances surround the lady’s death,” Ayanlade said.

Local authorities have responded swiftly to the shocking event. The Chairman of Irele Local Government, Mr. Olajide Akinfe, has appealed for calm among residents. He noted that the police are handling the case and urged the community not to take the law into their own hands

“This is a sad and unfortunate event for our community. I urge everyone to remain calm and allow the police to do their job,” Akinfe said.
