The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has sharply criticized President Bola Tinubu’s New Year address, describing it as an uninspiring reflection of the challenges facing Nigerians.
According to the opposition party, the President’s speech failed to address the pressing issues brought about by his administration’s policies.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said the broadcast painted a bleak picture of what lies ahead in 2025. The party alleged that Tinubu’s government is disconnected from the struggles of the Nigerian people.
“The PDP asserts that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2025 New Year Day address further confirms its position and that of most Nigerians that there is no hope in sight for the nation under his administration,” Ologunagba remarked.
The PDP criticized the speech for lacking solutions to key national issues, including rising fuel prices, unemployment, and the declining state of vital sectors like electricity, food production, and infrastructure.
The party also accused the administration of failing to provide a clear policy roadmap to tackle these challenges.
“Nigerians were appalled that despite the prodding by the PDP and well-meaning citizens, President Tinubu’s New Year speech did not articulate any specific direction for the nation,” the statement read.
Highlighting the high cost of living and widespread economic hardship, the PDP argued that the government has shown incompetence in managing national resources effectively.
The party added that Tinubu’s claim of enjoying Nigerians’ confidence is “ludicrous,” asserting that many citizens have lost faith in his leadership.
The PDP urged the President to prioritize the welfare and security of Nigerians, emphasizing the need for policies that directly address their struggles. They also called on Tinubu to refocus his administration’s efforts on governance and listen to the voices of the people.
