Tinubu Appoints Bishop Kukah as Pro-Chancellor of Federal University in Kaduna

President Bola Tinubu has appointed the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah, as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, Kaduna State. The announcement was made on Monday in a statement released by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

The appointment comes just over a month after Tinubu directed the Federal Government to take over Nok University, a private institution in Kachia, Kaduna State, and convert it into a federal university. Following this directive, the institution was officially renamed the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia.

Alongside Bishop Kukah, the President also approved the appointment of key officials for the university. Prof. Qurix Barnabas has been named Vice Chancellor, Sanusi Adamu as Registrar, Ibrahim Dalhat as Bursar, and Prof. Daniel Abubakar as Librarian. The university’s Governing Council will also include Mr. Thomas Etuh, representing the North Central region, Chief Fabian Nwaora from the South East, Prof. Femi Taiwo from the South West, and Zarah Bukar from the North East.

“All the appointees were carefully selected based on their distinguished careers, leadership experience, and dedication to advancing education in Nigeria,” the statement read.

Tinubu urged the newly appointed officials to work together to make the university a center for academic excellence and research. He stressed the importance of their leadership in aligning the institution with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
