President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has posthumously awarded the prestigious Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) title to the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja. The honor was announced during the burial ceremony held in Abuja on Friday, where the nation gathered to bid farewell to the distinguished officer.
The solemn event, which was marked by military traditions and national respect, was attended by several prominent figures. President Tinubu led the occasion alongside Vice President Kashim Shettima. Also present were First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abass, and the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola.
The burial rites included a faith service, the setting of the casket by pallbearers, the solemn sounding of the Last Post, and a minute of silence to honor the late Army Chief’s service to the nation. The President described Lagbaja’s contributions as extraordinary, saying his leadership and dedication left an indelible mark on the Nigerian Army.
While presenting the posthumous CFR award, Tinubu highlighted the late General’s commitment to the unity and security of Nigeria. He remarked, “Lagbaja’s life was a testament to courage, honor, and patriotism.”
