President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Nigerian singer Tems for her recent Grammy win in the Best African Music Performance category. The singer won the prestigious award for her song “Love Me Jeje.”
In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), President Tinubu shared his excitement and pride for the talented artist. He wrote, “Congratulations to @temsbaby on winning the Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance, ‘Love me jeje.’”
He further expressed his pride in Tems’ accomplishment and the overall success of Nigerian artists who were nominated for Grammy Awards this year. “I am proud of her accomplishments and those of Nigerian origin who were nominated for the Grammy awards. Their achievements continue to inspire all Nigerians. Congratulations!” he added.
Tems’ Grammy win comes as a significant milestone in her music career. She triumphed in the competitive category, which saw other big names in African music also nominated.
The category included songs like “Tomorrow” by Yemi Alade, “MMS” by Asake featuring Wizkid, “Sensational” by Chris Brown featuring Davido and Lojay, and “Higher” by Burna Boy. Despite the stiff competition, Tems’ soulful hit “Love Me Jeje” stood out and earned her the recognition.
This is not Tems’ first Grammy win. In 2023, she also won a Grammy for her contribution to Future’s “Wait For U,” which took home the award for Best Melodic Rap Performance. Her back-to-back Grammy wins have solidified her place as one of the most celebrated African artists on the global stage.
In a comparison to previous winners, it is worth noting that South African artist Tyla claimed the award in 2024 for her hit song “Water,” marking the first edition of the Best African Music Performance category at the Grammy Awards.
