Tinubu Facing Tough Challenges Past Leaders Avoided, Says Shettima

Vice President Kashim Shettima has praised President Bola Tinubu for taking on some of Nigeria’s most difficult challenges—problems that previous leaders chose to ignore.

Speaking at a special Iftar dinner held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja to celebrate Tinubu’s birthday, Shettima noted that Tinubu is making sacrifices that will shape the country’s future. He described the President as a bold leader who is tackling critical national issues that past administrations avoided.

Shettima pointed out that Tinubu has confronted major challenges, such as fuel subsidy fraud, an unstable foreign exchange market, and the lack of autonomy for local governments. He stated that these were long-standing problems that previous governments either ignored or failed to resolve.

“These were the thorny issues that many before him sidestepped. But Asiwaju did not sidestep history; he came to rewrite it. And in rewriting it, Asiwaju has taken the bullets that many before him simply lacked the courage to face,” Shettima said.

The Vice President further explained that true leadership requires making tough decisions, even when they are unpopular. He believes that Tinubu’s actions will benefit future presidents, as they will no longer have to deal with the same lingering problems that have troubled Nigeria for years.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio also spoke at the event, praising Tinubu for his ability to forgive and his strong commitment to national development. He described the President as someone who thinks outside the box and called him the “most audacious president” in Nigeria’s history.

Akpabio also noted that state governors are receiving more funds under Tinubu’s administration, which he believes is improving governance at the state level.

“If I were a governor under your administration, I would have been a ‘supernatural governor’ and not an uncommon governor,” Akpabio said.
