Tinubu in Closed-door Meeting With Security Chiefs

President Bola Tinubu is currently holding a closed-door meeting with Nigeria’s top security leaders at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The gathering comes shortly before his scheduled departure to Rome this Saturday, where he will attend the inauguration mass of Pope Leo XIV, following an invitation from the Vatican.

Those present at the high-level meeting include the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa; Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla; and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. Other key security figures are also in attendance.

While no official statement has been made about the topics discussed during the meeting, a source close to the Presidency noted that national security concerns are at the center of the talks. The country has witnessed a recent rise in security threats, with cases of kidnapping, bandit attacks, and clashes in different regions.

The President, according to sources, is being briefed by the service chiefs on the current state of security and what is being done to manage the situation. The briefing is also likely to include updates on recent operations, intelligence reports, and plans to improve coordination among the various security agencies.

Aides close to the meeting noted that President Tinubu has been receiving regular updates on the security situation but wanted a face-to-face session with the chiefs before leaving the country. The move is seen as an effort to show leadership and ensure that national safety measures are being strengthened even while he is away.
