President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Prince Doyin Okupe, a seasoned politician, strategist, and medical doctor who was a key figure in Nigeria’s political scene.
In a statement released on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President noted that Okupe’s death is a great loss to the nation. He extended his heartfelt condolences to Okupe’s family, friends, and associates.
“President Bola Tinubu extends his heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and associates of Prince Doyin Okupe, a medical doctor, politician, communicator, and strategist who played a significant role in Nigeria’s political landscape,” the statement read.
Okupe, who hailed from Iperu-Remo in Ogun State, held several important political positions during his lifetime. He served as Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to former President Goodluck Jonathan and was also Special Assistant on Media to former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Throughout his political journey, Okupe was actively involved in multiple parties. He was the National Publicity Secretary of the National Republican Convention and played key roles in the United Nigeria Congress Party, the Peoples Democratic Party, and the Accord Party, where he served as the national leader. His most recent political position was as the Director-General of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign for the 2023 election.
