Tinubu Mourns Retired S’Court Judge, Argungu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed profound sorrow over the death of retired Supreme Court Justice Uthman Mohammed Argungu. Justice Argungu, who passed away at the age of 90, was laid to rest in Argungu, Kebbi State, on Sunday, following Islamic burial rites.

In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Tinubu described Justice Argungu as an eminent jurist and a close associate whose life was dedicated to national service and integrity.

The President praised his significant contributions to the Nigerian judiciary and the legal profession, underscoring his reputation for honesty and commitment.

“Justice Argungu lived a life devoted to humanity and the service of his country with unmatched integrity and commitment,” President Tinubu stated.

Justice Argungu’s career began as a teacher in the old Sokoto Province. After being called to the bar in 1965, he embarked on an illustrious legal journey that saw him rise to the Supreme Court in 1993.

Beyond Nigeria, he served as a visiting justice of the Supreme Court of the Gambia, further cementing his reputation as an exceptional legal mind.

President Tinubu extended his condolences to the family of Justice Argungu, as well as to the government and people of Kebbi State. He also prayed for the repose of his soul, adding, “This is indeed a moment of grief, but we take solace in the remarkable life and legacy he left behind.”
