HRM Dr. Godday Smith, also known as Agadagba III, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in a growing dispute between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and the Ijaw Nation. Smith urged Tinubu to caution Wike, accusing him of making disrespectful remarks about the Ijaw people.
In a statement issued on Friday, Smith warned that the Ijaw Nation would not tolerate further attacks from Wike. He claimed that the minister’s comments were baseless and could escalate tensions in the Niger Delta region.
The traditional leader also urged Tinubu to consider removing Wike from his ministerial position, arguing that his actions could create unnecessary conflict. According to Smith, Wike’s words and behavior could cause division among people in the Niger Delta and even turn the region against the president.
He further noted that no one insults the Ijaw Nation without consequences. Smith demanded that Wike immediately apologize, particularly for what he described as a show of disrespect toward elder statesman E.K. Clark, who has yet to be buried.
“Wike saying Ijaws are a minority in Niger Delta clearly shows that Wike is far from reality. He must be very careful when talking about Ijaw Nation. Wike should not disrupt the peace in Niger Delta. He should go and settle his differences with Governor Fubara,” Smith stated.
The traditional leader also warned that Wike should be mindful of his words, suggesting that his remarks could anger both the Ijaw people and the spiritual forces they believe in.
“As the mouthpiece of the gods, Wike should be mindful of his comments because he cannot withstand the wrath of the gods and Ijaw Nation, therefore, I am cautioning him and he must apologize to Ijaw Nation,” he said.
