The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy and Communications, Daniel Bwala, has cleared the air about the president’s trip to France, saying it is not related to any health issues. He made this statement on Sunday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.
Bwala strongly denied social media rumors claiming that President Tinubu traveled abroad for medical attention. He said the president is in France strictly for official duties and not for a doctor’s appointment, as suggested by some online commentators.
“Sometimes on social media, somebody will be tweeting, you don’t even know who the person is; it can be somebody who has mental health somewhere,” Bwala said, reacting to the flood of speculation about the president’s visit.
He further noted that President Tinubu’s schedule in France has been transparent, with regular updates being shared with the public. According to him, the presidency has been open about the president’s activities since he departed Nigeria.
“The president (Tinubu) did not go to (France) to see a doctor; he’s on a working visit and we have been publishing his activities,” he added.
President Tinubu traveled to Paris on April 2, 2025. His return to Nigeria is expected on Wednesday, April 16.
Bwala criticized the spread of misinformation online, warning that false stories can mislead citizens and create unnecessary tension. He noted that many social media users don’t verify facts before spreading claims, which can harm public trust.
He also said that not everyone posting on social platforms should be taken seriously, as many of them are anonymous or have questionable motives.
