Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, along with former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, attended the inauguration of Ghana’s newly elected president, John Dramani Mahama, in Accra on Tuesday.
The event drew high-profile African leaders, symbolizing solidarity and cooperation across the continent.
John Mahama’s return to power marked a historic transition as he reclaimed the presidency after succeeding Nana Akufo-Addo, who served two terms beginning in 2017.
The occasion also celebrated a groundbreaking achievement with Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang being sworn in as Ghana’s first female vice president.
Her appointment was widely applauded as a significant step forward for gender representation in African leadership.
During the ceremony, President Tinubu commended Mahama’s leadership and promised unwavering Nigerian support for Ghana.
Describing Mahama as a leader of “patriotic vision and substance,” Tinubu emphasized the importance of unity among African nations. “You can always count on Nigeria’s support,” he stated, urging stronger ties within the region.
In his inaugural address, Mahama expressed gratitude to the visiting dignitaries and highlighted his commitment to fostering regional prosperity. He pledged to deepen cooperation within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), focusing on economic growth and stability.
