Tinubu’s Minister Not a Member of Our Party – Kano APC Chair

Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, Abdullahi Abbas, has stated that the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, is not a member of the party. Abbas questioned the minister’s appointment, saying the party does not recognize him as one of their own.

His statement came as a response to comments made by Yusuf Ata during an interview with BBC Hausa. Ata had warned that he and his supporters would leave the APC if Abdullahi Abbas or anyone similar to him was reinstated as the party’s chairman in Kano State.

The minister also claimed that the actions of some party leaders, including Abbas, contributed to APC losing power in Kano despite winning the 2023 governorship election. He suggested that such utterances were among the reasons “why God took off power from the party.”

However, Abdullahi Abbas dismissed these claims, accusing Yusuf Ata of working against the APC during the 2023 election. He stated that the party had informed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu about Ata’s alleged anti-party activities.

“To us APC members, Yusuf Ata is not a member of the APC. We don’t even know why he was appointed a minister. All over Kano State, it was only in his local government we came third during the 2023 election,” Abbas said.

“We were not aware that he was being appointed a minister. We told the president that he is not a member of our party. He did anti-party. He is only a local champion.”
