Tragedy struck in Bauchi State on Saturday morning when a groom and two of his close friends lost their lives in a car crash just an hour before his wedding. The heartbreaking incident happened in Toro Local Government Area and has left the local communities in deep mourning.
The groom, identified as Superintendent of Police Mustapha Garba Gumau, was traveling from his hometown of Gumau to the nearby village of Magaman-Gumau, where he was to be married in a ceremony set for 10:00 a.m. Sadly, the journey ended in tragedy when the car he was in veered off the road and crashed around 9:00 a.m. near Bargan Tsamiya village.
Two of his friends, Shuaibu Umar and Sulaiman Musa, were also killed instantly in the crash. According to witnesses at the scene, the car appeared to lose control before leaving the road and flipping over. Locals who arrived shortly after the accident said the vehicle was severely damaged, and the three victims died on the spot due to the impact.
Others who were in the car at the time of the accident reportedly sustained injuries. Some were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, though the exact number of injured passengers has not been confirmed.
The wedding, which was expected to be a joyful and memorable event, quickly turned into a day of sorrow and disbelief. The towns of Gumau and Magaman-Gumau have been left in shock, as residents gathered to grieve the sudden and painful loss.
One resident noted, “We were preparing to attend a wedding, but ended up mourning our brother.”
