Tragedy as Man Kills Friend Over N2,000 Debt in Ondo

In a shocking incident in Ondo State, Nigeria, a 34-year-old man named Monday Chukwu has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his friend, Kefa Ofando, to death over a debt of N2,000. The incident occurred in the Odigbo area of the state and was part of a larger police operation that led to the arrest of 11 suspected criminals involved in various offenses.

The Ondo State Police Commissioner, Abayomi Oladipo, revealed the details during a press briefing in Akure, the state capital. According to Oladipo, the tragic event took place on September 20, 2024, after a disagreement between Chukwu and Ofando over the unpaid debt. Chukwu, in a fit of rage, used a pair of scissors to stab Ofando in the neck, leading to his death.

Oladipo stated, “Upon arrival at the scene, crime scene experts recovered a pair of scissors, while a medical practitioner confirmed Kefa Ofando dead. Investigation is ongoing, and the suspect will soon be charged to court upon conclusion.”

The police commissioner used the opportunity to warn the public about the dangers of allowing disputes to escalate into violence. He emphasized the importance of remaining calm and avoiding confrontations, especially when emotions are running high. “This underscores the importance of staying away from violent individuals and the need to act with restraint, especially when angry or under pressure,” he said.

In addition to Chukwu’s arrest, the police also nabbed a 16-year-old girl named Precious Kolawole, who is suspected of being involved in the killing of a popular caterer in Ondo State, Mrs. Adeniyi Iyabode. Iyabode, the owner of “Bola Country Kitchen,” was killed shortly after her birthday celebration. Kolawole, who was one of Iyabode’s domestic staff, allegedly conspired with another suspect, Emmanuel Philip, to rob and murder her.

The police revealed that after killing Iyabode, the suspects used her ATM card to withdraw N30,000 from her bank account. Kolawole, a secondary school student, fled the area after the crime but was later apprehended by the police. Both she and Philip are currently in custody and will face charges upon the conclusion of the investigation.

The commissioner added, “Clinical investigation revealed knife wounds inflicted by Philip Emmanuel and machete cuts by Precious Kolawole, resulting in the death of the victim.”

In a separate case, the police also arrested a man named Renan Niju for suspected arson. Niju allegedly set fire to a school in the Bolorunduro area, a crime believed to be linked to a local chieftaincy dispute. The suspect was caught by local vigilantes while attempting to revisit the property to carry out more damage.

Oladipo stressed the importance of increased security and vigilance, especially as criminal elements continue to pose threats to public safety. He urged residents to take extra precautions to protect their properties and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
