On Friday afternoon, suspected cultists killed a young man named Nonso in Awka, the capital of Anambra State. Nonso was the last of three brothers in his family, all of whom have now tragically lost their lives in suspected cult-related attacks.
According to sources who spoke with DAILY POST, Nonso was attacked in broad daylight near the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, also known as Amaku. The shocking murder of Nonso follows similar violent deaths of his two brothers, who were also victims of suspected cult clashes. The middle brother, Buchi, was killed just three months ago around MacDon Eatery, while the eldest had previously met a violent end.
The tragic deaths of the three brothers have left their mother alone, devastated by the loss of all her children. Awka, known for its increasing cult-related violence, has become a hotspot for such attacks, with over 16 people recently killed in nearby Nibo and seven more deaths reported in the Ifite Awka area. Despite police assurances, the violence continues.
Anambra State Police Commissioner Nnaghe Obono Itam condemned the most recent killing, pledging that authorities will “leave no stone unturned in apprehending the perpetrators and bringing them to justice.”
In response to the rising violence, the Ezinano Awka Community, led by Ozo Jeff Nweke, announced a N10 million bounty on those responsible for the recent Nibo massacre and warned cult groups to stay away from Awka and its surrounding areas.
