Trent Alexander-Arnold to Leave Liverpool End of Season

Trent Alexander-Arnold announced Monday he will be leaving Liverpool Football Club when his contract concludes at the end of the current season. The 26-year-old England defender described the decision as “the hardest” he has ever made, marking the end of a two-decade-long journey with the club.

Alexander-Arnold, who helped Liverpool secure the Premier League title this season, revealed that he will be parting ways with the team he has been a part of since childhood. His departure comes as speculation grows about a potential free transfer to Real Madrid, a club he has been heavily linked with in recent weeks.

“After 20 years at Liverpool Football Club, now is the time for me to confirm that I will be leaving at the end of the season,” he shared in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “This is easily the hardest decision I’ve ever made in my life.”

The news comes after Liverpool’s success in the Premier League, where they secured their 20th top-flight title, leveling them with rivals Manchester United in terms of league championships. Alexander-Arnold noted that he had chosen not to address his future sooner to maintain his focus on securing the club’s 20th title.

“I know many of you have wondered why or been frustrated that I haven’t spoken about this yet, but it was always my intention to keep my full focus on the team’s best interests, which was securing No. 20,” he added.

The talented full-back has been an integral part of Liverpool’s success over the years, making 352 appearances for the club since his senior debut in 2016. In that time, he scored 23 goals and earned eight major trophies, including the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, and FIFA Club World Cup.

Reflecting on his time at Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold expressed deep affection for the club and its supporters. “This club has been my whole life — my whole world — for 20 years. From the Academy right through until now, the support and love I have felt from everyone inside and outside of the club will stay with me forever,” he said. “I will forever be in debt to you all. My love for this club will never die.”
