Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully stopped attempts by terrorists to launch attacks in Buratai and Mallam Fatori, both in Borno State. The Nigerian Army confirmed the incident on Thursday, saying several terrorists were killed and many weapons recovered during the mission.
Captain Reuben Kovangiya, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), shared this information in a statement released to the media. He noted that the operation took place on June 5, 2025, and was a joint effort between ground troops and the OPHK Air Component.
“In yet another coordinated effort by the ground forces and Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), scores of terrorists have been neutralised, with assorted arms and ammunition recovered, in a foiled attack on troops in Buratai, Biu Local Government Area and Mallam Fatori, Abadam Local Government Areas of Borno State,” the statement read.
According to Captain Kovangiya, the terrorists tried to surprise the soldiers stationed in Buratai early in the morning. They approached from several directions, hoping to catch the troops off guard. However, the soldiers quickly responded with heavy gunfire, while the Air Component provided backup from above.
“The failed attack on Buratai occurred in the early hours of Thursday, June 5, 2025, when the terrorists attempted to deceitfully infiltrate troops location from all approaches,” he said.
The military said several bodies of the attackers were found after the fight, and they also recovered many weapons. These included AK-47 rifles, Rocket Propelled Guns, and General Purpose Machine Guns.
Captain Kovangiya noted that after the terrorists began to retreat, the troops chased them down to prevent any regrouping. “The coordinated efforts of the ground forces and Air Component demonstrate the military’s commitment to denying terrorists freedom of action,” he added.
