In a major breakthrough against Boko Haram, troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), operating under Sector III of Operation Hadin Kai, have successfully rescued 38 hostages and disrupted a critical logistics chain supporting the terrorist group. The operations took place on Tuesday in the Lake Chad region, specifically in the Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno, near the Baga axis.
Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, Chief Military Information Officer at MNJTF Headquarters in N’Djamena, Chad, confirmed the rescue in an official statement. According to Osoba, the MNJTF troops intercepted a group of Boko Haram militants who were transporting a significant number of hostages. Upon encountering the soldiers, the terrorists abandoned the captives and quickly fled the area.
The hostages rescued included a diverse group of eight men, eight women, and 24 children. Osoba stated that preliminary investigations revealed that the captives were being moved from Dogon Chikwu, a Boko Haram stronghold that has been heavily targeted by ongoing military operations.
“Efforts are underway to pursue the fleeing terrorists, as intelligence suggests they may still be holding additional hostages,” Lt. Col. Osoba noted in his statement, underlining the army’s commitment to tracking down the militants and securing further releases.
In another operation, MNJTF troops successfully dismantled a Boko Haram logistics syndicate in the Gubio area. The syndicate had been using three vehicles to transport essential supplies—such as food, clothing, and medical supplies—intended to sustain the terrorist group’s activities. The three suspects arrested during the operation were identified as Mustapha Muhamadu, Abdullahi Muhammed, and Usman Bintumi.
These operations are part of MNJTF’s broader strategy to weaken Boko Haram’s ability to operate, particularly in the Lake Chad Basin, a region where the terrorist group has maintained a presence for years. Lt. Col. Osoba emphasized the importance of these ongoing efforts, which are guided by intelligence and close cooperation between military forces and Civilian Joint Task Forces (CJTF).
