President Donald Trump announced sweeping policy changes during his inaugural address after being sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on January 20, 2025.
Speaking in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda in Washington, D.C., Trump outlined his administration’s approach to key issues, including gender recognition, trade, and immigration.
Trump stated that the U.S. government will now officially recognize only two genders—male and female. This decision marks a significant shift from previous policies that allowed for the recognition of a third gender in certain settings.
Addressing the audience, he declared, “I will also end the government policy of trying to socially engineer race and gender into every aspect of public and private life… As of today, it will henceforth be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders, male and female.”
The president also turned his attention to trade reform, promising measures to prioritize American workers and families. He noted that his administration would impose tariffs and taxes on foreign countries to reduce the financial burden on U.S. citizens.
Trump stated, “I will immediately begin the overhaul of our trade system to protect American workers and families. Instead of taxing our citizens to enrich other countries, we will tariff and tax foreign countries to enrich our citizens.”
Immigration policy was another cornerstone of Trump’s speech. He reiterated his campaign promise to address illegal immigration, pledging to deport what he described as “millions and millions” of undocumented migrants.
He announced plans to declare a national emergency at the southern border, stating, “All illegal entry will immediately be halted, and we will begin the process of returning millions and millions of criminal aliens back to the places from which they came.”
