“Truth is a Big Crime in Nigeria,” Eedris Abdulkareem Slams FG Over Song Ban

Legendary Nigerian rapper Eedris Abdulkareem has strongly criticized the Nigerian government after the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) banned his new song “Tell Your Papa” over allegations that it was offensive.

The government’s move has sparked widespread reactions, with many questioning the authorities’ stance on freedom of expression and artistic creativity. According to reports, the NBC officially placed a ban on the song on Thursday, calling it “offensive.”

In response to this ban, Abdulkareem expressed his frustration and disapproval through a passionate post on Instagram. In his post, the outspoken artist accused the government of attempting to suppress the truth and limit free speech.

He likened the government’s actions to the censorship his iconic protest song “Jaga Jaga” faced back in 2004, claiming that the Nigerian government has historically silenced voices of criticism.

“It is obvious that in Nigeria, truth and constructive criticism is always deemed a big crime by the government,” Abdulkareem noted.

He didn’t hold back in calling out President Bola Tinubu’s administration, describing it as “one of the most insensitive, vindictive and grossly maleficent administrations that has ever presided over the affairs of Nigeria.”

The rapper also criticized the actions of the NBC and other authorities for pressuring media outlets to avoid airing the song.

Abdulkareem believes this is part of a broader effort to shield the government from scrutiny and maintain control over the flow of information to the public. He expressed concern over how this kind of censorship reflects a lack of transparency and accountability within the government.

“They are instructing broadcast houses to shield the government by hiding the candle under the table. Anyone wonder why Nigeria has not made impactful strides all these years? The conscience is an open wound, only the truth can heal it,” Abdulkareem added in his post.
