Two Chinese expatriates and a policeman have been killed in an ambush by armed men in Abia State. The attack occurred on April 4, 2025, while the victims were traveling to a company site in Agukwu-Amaya, Ndundu Community, located in the Isuikwuato Local Government Area of the state.
The ambush took place as the group, which included Chinese nationals and police escorts, was en route to their destination. Tragically, three individuals lost their lives during the assault.
The victims have been identified as Mr. Quan, a male manager, Mr. Cai, a colleague of Mr. Quan, and Inspector Audu Saidu, a police officer assigned to escort the group. The attackers also stole the rifle of Inspector Saidu during the incident.
In a statement issued on April 5, 2025, DSP Maureen Chinaka, the Police Public Relations Officer for Abia State, confirmed the attack and provided further details.
She mentioned that a joint operation between the Abia State Police Command, the military, and other security agencies was launched immediately after receiving a distress report around 5:30 p.m. on April 4.
Fortunately, four other Chinese expatriates and two police officers were rescued by security personnel following the operation. Three of the expatriates were unharmed, while one sustained injuries.
Additionally, one of the police officers, Inspector Uba Ahmed, was also rescued but suffered a gunshot wound to his leg. Both the injured officer and the expatriate are currently being treated at the Federal Medical Centre in Abakaliki, and they are reportedly responding well to treatment.
On April 5, 2025, a tactical team led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) visited the crime scene as part of ongoing efforts to locate and apprehend the criminals. The search continues with support from the military and local community members. During this operation, Inspector Ijeagwa Friday was successfully rescued, unharmed.
Abia State Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, has vowed to bring those responsible for this attack to justice. He assured the residents of Abia that authorities are working diligently on the investigation. He also encouraged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest police station.
