Two Sentenced for Vandalizing Transformer, Telecom Mast in Kogi

A Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State, has sentenced two individuals for vandalizing public infrastructure, including an electricity transformer and a telecommunications mast.

One of the convicts, Abdullahi Umar, was sentenced to two years and six months in prison after being found guilty of stealing transformer cables that supplied power to communities around the Federal University Lokoja in Adankolo.

His case, identified as suit number FHC/LKJ/06c/2025, was concluded with a guilty verdict.

Similarly, another offender, Yakubu Mohammed, was sentenced to one year and six months in prison for vandalizing an Etisalat telecommunication mast antenna in the Okumi Community of Lokoja. His case was filed under suit number FHC/LKJ/05c/2025.

The Kogi State Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Aliyu Abdullahi, confirmed the court rulings in a statement on Friday.

According to Abdullahi, the Federal High Court in Lokoja delivered its judgments on February 13, 2025, addressing both cases separately.

The statement noted that the State Commandant of the NSCDC, Akinlade Esther, praised the prosecution team, led by DCC Ike F. Ugochukwu, for their detailed and professional approach in handling the cases.

“Commandant Akinlade expressed her commitment to significantly curtail acts of vandalism against Critical National Assets and Infrastructures, as well as addressing criminal activities throughout the State,” the statement read.

The NSCDC also urged residents of Kogi State to report any suspicious activities that could help security agencies combat vandalism and other crimes. The command stressed the importance of timely and accurate information in maintaining public safety.
