U.S. Decries Killing of Kaduna Priest, Demands Justice

The United States Mission in Nigeria has condemned the killing of Reverend Father Sylvester Okechukwu, a Catholic priest in Kaduna State. The mission expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident and called for justice for the slain clergyman.

Father Okechukwu, who served as the pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church in Tachira, Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State, was abducted on Tuesday. Sadly, his body was discovered on Wednesday, confirming his death. The Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan officially announced his passing, sending shockwaves through the religious community and beyond.

In response to the tragedy, the U.S. Mission released a statement on its official X account, strongly condemning the killing. The mission noted the brutal nature of the crime and extended its deepest sympathies to Father Okechukwu’s family, congregation, and the entire community mourning his loss.

“The loss is immeasurable,” the mission stated, acknowledging the pain and grief caused by the priest’s untimely death. It also reassured the public of its continued support for efforts to address violence and insecurity in the region.
