UTME Candidates to Sit Exam Only Within Registered State – JAMB

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has made it clear that no candidate taking part in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will be posted to a centre outside the state in which they registered.

This update was shared by JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Dr Fabian Benjamin, during a recent conversation with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Dr Benjamin noted that during the recently held UTME mock exams, some candidates were sent to centres outside their states. However, he explained that this only happened because several approved Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres were not yet ready or available to host the mock tests.

He clarified that this arrangement was temporary and only applied to the mock exams. For the main UTME, which will see more centres fully prepared and in operation, candidates will be required to write the examination within the state where they originally registered.

“If centres for mock in Abuja are filled up, and there were available centres in Nassarawa State, candidates will be sent there,” he said.

He stressed that the situation would not repeat itself during the main examination, since all approved CBT centres across the country would be ready to handle the full number of candidates in each state.

Dr Benjamin also noted that early registration for UTME plays a role in how close a candidate’s test centre is. Those who register early are more likely to be placed at centres nearer to them. On the other hand, late registrants might be assigned to other available centres within their registered state, if closer options are already filled.
