VeryDarkMan to be Released Today, Faces Court Charges Thursday

Activist and influencer Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), is expected to regain his freedom today following his arrest last Friday by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

This information comes from a source who disclosed to VANGUARD that the social media personality will, however, be arraigned in court on Thursday to face multiple charges related to cyberstalking and similar offences.

Since his arrest, the situation has stirred widespread reactions across the country. In Abuja, several young Nigerians flooded the streets in protest, demanding his immediate release.

Demonstrators, seen in areas like Wuse and Berger Bridge, described his arrest as unjust and unlawful. They declared plans to escalate the issue to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), stating their firm intention to hold the authorities accountable.

The EFCC confirmed VDM had not yet been formally charged, but revealed that several petitions had been filed against him, prompting the upcoming court process.

A source from within the agency noted, “We intend to file these charges in the coming days. Once that is done, you will be among the first to be informed.”
