Veteran Nollywood Actor and Filmmaker, Kayode Peters Dies in Canada

Renowned Nigerian filmmaker, director, and actor Kayode Peters has died. He passed away in Toronto, Canada, on the morning of Saturday, June 28, 2025, after a prolonged illness.

His family confirmed the sad news through a heartfelt post shared on his official Instagram account.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved, Kayode Peters Adewumi, who passed on peacefully this morning June 28, 2025 in Toronto, Canada,” the statement reads.

Known fondly as “KP,” Peters was widely admired for his creativity, passion, and dedication to his craft. He was praised not just for his talent in filmmaking but also for his warm personality.

The family described him as “a cherished son, husband, father, brother, and friend,” adding that his kindness and generosity touched many people throughout his life.

The family’s message continued, “KP braved, challenged and conquered a long time illness until his last breath this morning.” They also requested privacy while they prepare for his funeral and take time to recover from the loss.

Peters began his career in the early 2000s and quickly became a major force in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

He gained recognition for directing and producing stage plays and popular sitcoms that many Nigerians enjoyed watching. His breakthrough moment came with the comedy series Flatmates, which connected with audiences due to its humor and relatability.

He also worked on Extended Family, another well-known production that brought laughter to many homes and displayed his skills as both a producer and director. Over the years, he became a key figure in modern Nigerian theatre and television.
