Nigerian striker Victor Boniface’s much-anticipated move from Bayer Leverkusen to Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr has collapsed. Despite initial talks progressing well, Al Nassr ultimately decided not to proceed with the transfer, leaving Boniface’s future in question for now.
Romano shared the news on Wednesday night through his official account on X, confirming: “Victor Boniface and Al Nassr, deal OFF. Nigerian striker won’t join the club, deal was advanced… but never done as Al Nassr never gave final green light.”
The Saudi Pro League club has shifted its focus to Aston Villa forward Jhon Duran, securing the Colombian striker in a deal worth €77 million, which includes potential add-ons. The move is expected to be finalized soon, with Duran scheduled to undergo a medical on Friday.
Earlier reports had suggested that Leverkusen and Al Nassr were close to finalizing a transfer fee of €60 million for Boniface, who had also been promised a lucrative salary package worth £15 million per year in Saudi Arabia. However, despite the advanced negotiations, the deal never materialized, leaving Boniface to remain at Leverkusen for the time being.
In a surprising turn, Boniface was not included in Leverkusen’s squad for their UEFA Champions League match against Sparta Prague on Wednesday. The German side won the game 2-0, securing a spot in the competition’s Round of 16. Boniface’s exclusion raised eyebrows, especially considering his impressive form this season after recently recovering from a hamstring injury.
The 24-year-old striker has been in top shape, netting eight goals and contributing one assist in 15 appearances across all competitions. His strong performances have attracted attention from several top clubs, particularly in Europe.
