VIDEO: CJN Kekere-Ekun Breaks Silence After Being Sworn in, Reveals Actions to Take [VIDEO]

The newly appointed Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Kudirat Motonmori Kekere-Ekun, has expressed her determination to address the challenges facing the nation’s judiciary. After being sworn in, Justice Kekere-Ekun broke her silence, promising to take immediate steps toward reform and improvement.

During her post-inauguration remarks, Justice Kekere-Ekun emphasized the need for collaboration among her fellow justices. She stated that working together would be key to driving effective and lasting change within the judicial system. She acknowledged the pressing issues concerning appointments in the judiciary, vowing to tackle these concerns as one of her first priorities.

Her appointment to the top judicial position has sparked significant debate. The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has voiced concerns over her suitability for the role. HURIWA raised questions about her involvement in the controversial 2019 Imo State gubernatorial election judgment and pointed to allegations of her failure to declare assets as required by law.

The association also criticized the Code of Conduct Bureau for not investigating the allegations and speculated that her rise to CJN could be politically influenced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Despite these controversies, Justice Kekere-Ekun remains focused on her goal of reforming the judiciary and restoring public confidence in the system.
