Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and his close associates gathered at his residence to celebrate their legal victory over Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, at the Supreme Court. The ruling has significantly shifted the political landscape in Rivers State, with Wike’s allies gaining control over key institutions.
The Supreme Court, in a ruling delivered on Friday, nullified the local government elections conducted in Rivers State on October 5, 2024. Additionally, the court barred the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from disbursing funds allocated to the state until the faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Martins Amaewhule, is formally constituted.
This decision effectively strengthens Wike’s political influence in the state. With his loyalists now poised to take charge of the House of Assembly and local government structures, the ruling has dealt a significant blow to Governor Fubara’s administration.
Following the judgment, Wike and his supporters wasted no time in expressing their joy. Videos circulating online show them singing praises and offering thanks, attributing their victory to divine intervention.
