The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that the Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates will officially commence on Friday, October 25, 2024.
The exam will run until Friday, December 20, 2024, marking the second series of WASSCE for private candidates this year.
In a statement released on Tuesday, WAEC revealed that this year’s examination would be conducted in a hybrid format. This means the objective or multiple-choice sections will be presented on-screen, and candidates will be required to input their answers directly on the computer.
Meanwhile, essay and practical components of the exam will also appear on-screen, but candidates will provide their answers in physical answer booklets provided at the exam centers.
However, for candidates who may not feel comfortable using the computer-based system, WAEC has offered an alternative option. Students who prefer to use the traditional “paper and pen” mode for the entire examination will be accommodated, ensuring flexibility for all participants.
“The examination will adopt the hybrid mode of delivering the examination, which implies that, the objective or multiple-choice questions would be rendered on-screen and candidates would be required to give their responses on the screen, while the essay and practical questions will be rendered on-screen, likewise, but candidates would have to give their responses using the answer booklets provided,” WAEC’s statement read.
In addition, WAEC has extended the registration deadline for this exam series. Initially set to close earlier, the new deadline for registration is now Tuesday, October 29, 2024. This extension is intended to give more candidates the opportunity to register and participate.
WAEC also mentioned that for candidates who may miss the regular registration window but still wish to take the exam, there will be a “Walk-in-Candidate” option available.
This provision allows candidates to register 24 hours before the scheduled exam date for a particular subject, giving more flexibility to those who were unable to meet the main registration deadline.
The examination timetable is available for download on WAEC’s official Nigerian website, providing candidates with up-to-date information on the scheduled exam dates for their subjects.
To assist candidates in their preparations, WAEC encourages students to take advantage of a range of study resources. These include the WAEC e-Study platform, where students can access learning materials, and WAEC’s Past Questions and Answers books.
WAEC also recommends students join the WAECKonnect platform, an interactive online space where candidates can communicate and share study tips with each other.
“All intending, as well as registered, candidates are advised to take advantage of the numerous learning resources provided by the Council. These include signing up on the WAEC e-Study platform purchasing the WAEC Past Questions and Answers books, and joining other candidates to interact, on the WAECKonnect platform,” the Council advised.
