Wanted Bandit Kingpin, Police Officer, and Six Others Killed in Zamfara Shootout

Security forces in Zamfara State successfully repelled a violent attack by armed bandits in Keta town, Tsafe Local Government Area, leading to the death of a notorious bandit leader, a police officer, and six others.

The Zamfara State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement released by its spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, on Thursday. He noted that security operatives engaged the heavily armed bandits in a fierce gun battle, preventing them from carrying out their planned attack.

“At approximately 1540hrs, a good Samaritan reported that a large number of armed bandits had stormed Keta town with the intention of perpetrating inhumane acts. In response, a joint operation comprising the Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit, hunters, and Community Protection Guards mobilised and engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle,” the statement read.

Among those killed was a wanted criminal leader known as Dan Mudale, who had long been a threat to Tsafe and surrounding areas. The police had been tracking his activities for some time, as he was linked to multiple violent crimes, including kidnappings and attacks on villages.

While the security forces were able to eliminate a significant number of the attackers, the battle came at a heavy cost. One police officer, four members of the Community Protection Guard, and two hunters lost their lives during the operation. Additionally, two other hunters sustained injuries and were taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Gusau for treatment.

The police have since reassured residents of their commitment to restoring peace in the region. Authorities urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies for swift action.
