The Kwara State Police Command has taken popular Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, into custody after serious accusations were made against him. The arrest came following a formal complaint by an individual named Mr. Okunola Saheed, also known as Osupa.
In an official statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Superintendent of Police Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the incident unfolded after law enforcement received a petition detailing multiple claims against the singer.
According to Ejire-Adeyemi, the petition included accusations of criminal defamation, threats to life, and using language that could provoke violence. Additional claims mentioned incitement, damaging character statements, and actions that could disturb public peace.
“The suspect was arrested following a petition received from one Mr Okunola Saheed, popularly known as Osupa,” said the police spokesperson.
Police officials stated that, after thoroughly reviewing the petition and the evidence provided, they sought and obtained a warrant for Portable’s arrest from a Magistrate Court in Ilorin, Kwara State. With the warrant granted, officers traced the singer to Abeokuta, in Ogun State, where he was arrested at approximately 7:25 p.m. on Saturday.
The arrest, according to police, was conducted in the presence of legal representatives from both the accused and the complainant. Portable was then transported to Ilorin, where he is currently being held by the police.
The PPRO added, “He is currently in custody and arrangements are being made to charge him to court without delay.”
Ejire-Adeyemi also noted that the command is committed to fair investigation and due legal process. She asked the public to stay calm and avoid spreading false or unconfirmed information related to the case.
