The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called for an immediate rollback of the recent hike in petrol prices across the country. This demand was announced via a post on the NLC’s X page late Tuesday evening.
The statement from the NLC said: “We demand the immediate reversal of the latest increase in the pump of PMS across the country.” This call for action follows a significant surge in fuel prices, which saw the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) raise the official cost of petrol from N617 to N897 per litre.
The NLC expressed feelings of betrayal from President Bola Tinubu, claiming that the recent price hike goes against earlier agreements. NLC President Joe Ajaero explained that one of the reasons they agreed to the N70,000 minimum wage was an understanding that there would be no further increases in fuel prices.
