The Abia State Govt has confirmed that it has not received the reported 20 trucks of rice claimed to be distributed by the Federal Government as palliatives.
Prince Okey Kanu, the state’s Commissioner for Information, addressed the issue, stating that no such palliative aid has arrived in the state. Kanu said that there has been no official communication from the Federal Government regarding the distribution of these resources.
Kanu dismissed rumors about the Federal Government distributing 50kg bags of rice for N40,000 as “fake news.” He clarified, “We didn’t see any truck of rice from the Federal Government. And the issue of selling 50kg bag of rice for N40,000 is fake news.”
He further added, “There has been a way the federal government communicates with us when it has to do with palliatives, and no such message has come from the federal government.”
When questioned about whether the State Government should proactively seek communication with the Federal Government, Kanu responded that it was unnecessary.
He stated, “There is no point for us to be wasting our time looking for where to verify the news. If the news was authentic, we could have gotten the message as a Government straight from the federal government. No such thing happened!”
