Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has expressed full support for Ukrainian winger Mykhailo Mudryk following the revelation of an “adverse finding” in a recent drug test. The Football Association informed Chelsea on Tuesday about irregularities in Mudryk’s urine sample, prompting questions about his future in the sport.
Mudryk, 23, responded to the allegations in a statement on Instagram, saying the test results were a “complete shock” and denying any intentional use of banned substances.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Maresca affirmed the club’s confidence in Mudryk, stating, “We trust Misha. When this kind of thing happens, you need to support your player in all aspects.” He added, “Trust means we believe Misha.”
Mudryk’s situation is being closely monitored under UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) guidelines, which outline potential bans of up to four years for intentional violations. Reduced penalties may apply if the substance is proven to be from a contaminated product or if significant fault is absent.
The winger, who joined Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023 for a reported £88.5 million, has scored three goals this season, including one in a Conference League win against Heidenheim on November 28. However, he has not appeared in Chelsea’s last five matches across all competitions.
Maresca emphasized the importance of providing Mudryk with emotional and professional support, stating, “Any player in the world, when this happens, they need support… we are all there to try to support.
