Governors under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have firmly stated they will not be intimidated or excluded by the Federal Government, as they remain committed to democratic principles and good governance. This strong message was delivered during the party’s 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Tuesday in Abuja.
Speaking at the event, Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Bala Mohammed, noted that the party has endured several challenges under the current administration, including subtle threats and political pressure. He said PDP governors and members have faced numerous obstacles, but they have remained strong and united.
“Despite these pressures, our members remain steadfast and unwavering. There is no form of intimidation or persuasion that we, as elected governors and members, have not encountered. Yet, we remain resolute in our commitment,” Mohammed declared.
He further noted that the ruling party has been experiencing internal division and disunity, while the PDP continues to stay united as a family. “Other parties have been fragmented, with factions emerging here and there. But it is undeniable that we stand together as one,” he added.
Mohammed explained that the PDP has continued to hold state-level meetings and issue communiqués to keep its presence visible and engage the public on governance issues. He mentioned that these meetings have taken place in states such as Plateau, Taraba, Oyo, Delta, Akwa Ibom, and Bauchi.
“We have been conducting meetings across various states and issuing communiqués addressing critical governance issues. These efforts are aimed at maintaining our visibility and demonstrating that we are not yielding to the pressures around us,” he explained.
The governor praised the party’s leadership for their patience and dedication, describing the NEC meeting as a victory for democracy. He also shared plans to form new subcommittees to help strengthen the party’s operations and effectiveness.
“This 99th NEC meeting represents a triumph of democracy and good governance over the adversities we are currently facing in our nation. We deeply appreciate the patience and dedication of our leaders, who have worked tirelessly to bring us to this point,” he said.
In a final message, Governor Mohammed made it clear that the PDP governors are prepared to face any form of political resistance or criticism without backing down. “No amount of intimidation or exclusion by the federal government will deter us. We are ready to endure the challenges, the criticisms, and the hardships that come our way,” he asserted.
