We Won’t Let Crisis Rob Rivers People of Their Livelihood – Fubara

Suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has reassured the people of Rivers State that the ongoing political crisis will not break them but instead make them stronger. He also warned that certain individuals are trying to stir up violence in the state to deprive residents of their means of livelihood, vowing that such attempts would not succeed.

Fubara made these remarks while hosting a delegation of Muslim leaders from 20 Islamic-based groups, including the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, at his private residence in Port Harcourt during an Eid-el-Fitri Sallah visit. His Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, issued a statement on Monday confirming the discussions.

Addressing the religious leaders, Fubara urged them and his supporters to trust in God’s plan. He stated, “This season is one of love, sharing, and sacrifice. You have come to share in our pain and have made a great sacrifice through your prayers. As Christians, we believe that everything happens for a purpose, and I strongly believe that this situation is leading us toward a greater purpose.”

He noted that the political crisis had caused frustration among many people but assured them that unseen forces might be at work beyond human understanding. “No matter what we see, we must remain steadfast. In all things, we give glory to Almighty God. I believe that, in the end, we will emerge stronger,” he added.

Fubara also reaffirmed his commitment to justice and fairness, emphasizing that his administration envisions a society where no one is oppressed. “We believe in egalitarianism, and if our beliefs bring us some pain, so be it. The most important thing is that we stand on the side of truth and righteousness,” he stated.

The governor expressed regret over his inability to formally reach out to the Muslim community during their celebrations but promised that relations between religious groups and the government would be strengthened once the political situation stabilizes. He assured the leaders that their requests would be addressed after the crisis is resolved.

Encouraging patience, Fubara referenced religious history, stating, “If God could be patient with Noah to allow even the snail to enter the Ark, then patience remains an essential virtue in our struggle.”

He also warned his supporters and the people of Rivers State against being manipulated by those trying to incite violence. He stressed that such individuals only wanted to create chaos and take away the people’s means of survival. “Their goal is to create problems and deny people their means of livelihood. We will not allow that. We will continue to operate peacefully and respect constituted authority to ensure that our state remains a model for others in Nigeria,” he noted.
