The Concerned Christian Youth Forum has raised alarm over the ongoing killings in Benue and Plateau states, calling for immediate action to stop the frequent attacks that have resulted in numerous deaths and mass burials.
At a press conference held in Abuja on Wednesday, the convener of the forum, James Paul Adama, described the violence in the North Central region as a “national tragedy” that is threatening the country’s unity and stability. Adama pointed out that the persistent killings, many of which have led to mass burials, were not only a human tragedy but also a serious security crisis that needs urgent attention.
“We are tired of mass burials. We are tired of digging graves for our people week after week,” Adama said. His remarks reflect the deep frustration and grief felt by the people of the region as they endure regular attacks from armed groups. According to the forum, the rising death toll, coupled with the destruction of homes and livelihoods, has turned parts of the Middle Belt into zones of constant fear and uncertainty.
The Christian youth group criticized the government’s response to the violence, which they described as slow and ineffective. While they acknowledged the bravery of security forces working in affected areas, they emphasized the need for more decisive federal action to prevent further bloodshed. “This human carnage must stop, and the perpetrators must be brought to justice without further delay,” Adama added.
The forum also called on the federal government to take immediate steps to address the humanitarian crisis unfolding in the region. The group urged the government to prioritize relief efforts for those displaced by the violence and to assist in the rebuilding of devastated communities.
Adama stressed that the crisis in Benue and Plateau is not just a local issue but one that affects the entire nation. “This is not just about Benue and Plateau. It’s about the future of our nation. Every Nigerian deserves to live in peace and dignity,” he said.
