The Rivers State government is actively working on the 2025 budget, which will prioritize healthcare, education, agriculture, infrastructure, and job creation. This was disclosed by the Sole Administrator of the state, Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas (retd.), during a meeting with the Rivers State National Assembly caucus at Government House in Port Harcourt.
The delegation, led by Senator Barinada Mpigi, included several prominent lawmakers such as Senator Allwell Onyesoh, House of Representatives Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda, and other key members, including Dumnamene Dekor, Solomon Bob, Cyril Godwin Hart, Blessing Amadi, Felix Nwaeke, Kelechi Nwogu, and Victor Obuzor.
Ibas noted that following the Supreme Court’s ruling on the state’s budget, the government has intensified efforts to draft a new financial plan that aligns with its commitment to social services and economic progress.
He also stated that since taking office, his administration has remained focused on restoring law and order in the state. He attributed the improved security situation to the collaboration between his government and security agencies, which has helped create a more stable and secure environment for residents.
“In addition to our peace-building efforts, we are also focused on the economic stability and development of Rivers State,” Ibas stated. “Since the Supreme Court verdict on the state’s budget, we have acted swiftly and decided to put together a new budget that reflects our commitment to healthcare, education, social services, and continued infrastructural development.”
He further noted that the budget is being carefully crafted to ensure transparency and inclusivity. He assured that the government is working diligently to avoid delays in making critical investments that will enhance the lives of the people.
According to Ibas, the new budget will emphasize job creation, with significant investments planned for agriculture, infrastructure, and technology. He stressed that these initiatives are being designed to address economic challenges and provide opportunities for residents of the state.
“We understand the urgency of this initiative, and we are committed to ensuring that they are implemented without delay,” he added.
Acknowledging the role of lawmakers in the budget process, Ibas called for their support, emphasizing that their partnership is crucial to ensuring Rivers State remains on the path of stability and progress.
“Your partnership is critical to success in ensuring that Rivers State remains on the path of progress and enduring peace for future generations,” he said.
He also addressed the challenges that led to the state of emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu, explaining that his administration has relied on dialogue, community engagement, and reconciliation to rebuild trust among the people. He noted that residents have shown remarkable patience and resilience throughout the recovery process.
Beyond security efforts, Ibas stated that community engagement remains a core strategy of his administration. He stressed that dialogue, reconciliation, and inclusivity are key components in fostering unity and ensuring that every citizen feels valued.
“We are determined to strengthen the bond of unity in Rivers State and to foster an environment where every citizen feels valued, heard, and respected. Together, we are making strides in ensuring that peace becomes a permanent feature of our state,” he said.
