According to a report by The Eagle, President Bola Tinubu’s decision to support the reversal of his Chief Security Officer (CSO), Adegboyega Fasasi’s redeployment is linked to concerns over power dynamics within the nation’s security structure.
A reliable source from the Presidential Villa revealed to the news outlet the reasoning behind this move, shedding light on the unfolding events.
Last year, a directive issued by the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Tosin Ajayi, instructed Fasasi to proceed on a training course appropriate for his rank.
However, reports emerged that Fasasi had resisted this order, sparking speculation about tensions between the DSS and the Presidency.
According to an insider, President Tinubu chose to retain Fasasi as his CSO despite allegations of misconduct leveled against him.
The source explained that the decision was influenced by concerns over a perceived “power clique” within the DSS, which allegedly played a role in the removal of former DSS Director General Yusuf Bichi.
The source said: “The true situation with respect to CSO Fasasi is that his redeployment has been rescinded.
“The issue is not whether CSO Fasasi did not overreach himself or did not commit virtually all the infractions leveled at him.
“The point is the President was persuaded to rescind it because those who rooted for Fasasi’s removal had also boasted they had earlier removed the former DG DSS.
“The argument that persuaded the President is if this power clique also succeeded in removing the CSO, it would have succeeded in running a security ring around the President, which is dangerous.
“So Fasasi will not attend any course that will oust him from office.
“He will remain CSO.
“For how long is what nobody knows now.”
