Vice President Kashim Shettima has yet to move into his newly built official residence, nearly a year after its completion. The residence, which reportedly cost around N15 billion, was commissioned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on June 7, 2024, and was officially handed over to the Presidency by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) administration.
A visit to the location on January 31, 2025, by DAILY TRUST revealed that the residence remains unoccupied, with only a few plainclothes security operatives present. There was no visible sign of activity, raising questions about why the vice president has not relocated to the new building.
Multiple sources familiar with the situation told the news outlet that the delay may be due to security concerns. Some sources pointed to the location of the residence, suggesting it may not be ideal for a high-ranking government official like the vice president. This, they said, could be the reason for the continued delay in moving into the building.
Meanwhile, an official from the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), which handled the project under the FCT administration, confirmed that all necessary work on the residence had been completed. The official, who preferred to remain unnamed, stated that the project was officially handed over to the Presidency on the day of its commissioning.
