A grieving widow, Christiana Monday, has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to investigate the brutal murder of her husband, Raphael Monday, who was killed in a cocoa farm in Cross River State.
Christiana alleges police involvement in a suspected cover-up and has also sought help from the state’s First Lady, Mrs. Eyoanwan Otu, to bring justice for her late husband.
In her petition, dated November 29, 2024, Christiana accused a man named Mr. Ubi Ikpi of orchestrating the murder. She recounted that her husband left home on September 26, 2024, for a government-owned cocoa farm in Ikom. When he didn’t return as expected, she grew worried.
Christiana’s fears deepened when her inquiries led to conflicting responses. She stated that a police officer from the Ikom Area Command falsely claimed her husband had been arrested. The next day, upon further questioning, she discovered her husband’s body had been taken to a mortuary by Ubi Ikpi, allegedly without her consent.
Adding to the mystery, Christiana accused Bishop Collins Ogar of trying to bribe her family with ₦400,000 to remain silent. “They told us to use the money to bury my husband and to blame the farm group he worked with,” she revealed.
Christiana refused the offer and demanded accountability, questioning Bishop Collins’s intentions. “If he is not involved, why would he bring money to bury my husband?” she asked.
Now left to care for her three children, the widow pleaded for assistance. “Who will take care of my children? Who will pay their school fees? I need justice,” she said.
Ubi Ikpi, however, denied the allegations, maintaining his innocence. The state police spokesperson, SP Irene Ugbo, acknowledged the case but could not confirm its status, stating, “Investigation would be ongoing until it reaches a logical conclusion.”
