A former Director of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Council, Oladimeji Fabiyi, has criticized the party’s national leadership, accusing them of being weak and failing to uphold internal discipline.
Fabiyi expressed disappointment that those who undermined the party during the 2023 general elections, especially former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, have not faced any consequences.
Speaking in an interview on Arise News, Fabiyi noted that since the end of the 2023 elections, the PDP has been battling internal chaos, much of which stems from unresolved acts of betrayal. He pointed out that individuals like Wike, who openly confessed to working against the PDP during the last presidential election, remain untouched by disciplinary action.
Wike, along with a group of five governors, famously distanced themselves from the PDP after the party’s presidential ticket was secured by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. Instead of supporting their own candidate, the group backed Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who eventually emerged victorious in the election.
Fabiyi questioned why the leadership has not acted decisively.
“For me, I’ve totally lost confidence in the current leadership of the party, and I don’t see them getting anything right until they all leave so that we can have a new lease of life in the party.
“The current NWC of the party has failed the party. So I don’t have confidence in anything they do.
“Well, reconciliation is a trend that Saraki has been on but I have my reservation for him, because when the North Central needed him mostly, he deserted them.
“He deserted the North Central. So as far as I’m concerned, it’s all jokes. We have to tell them the truth. We have to tell them. If you don’t tell yourself the truth, you can’t fix the problem.
“The problem is that we have leadership that is not responsible. They should have been more responsible than what they’re doing now, it’s everywhere in the news.
“The party has had issues since after the election. The party lost the presidential election and lost some states too. So up till now, there are some people that have committed serious, grievous actions that are meant to be disciplined.
“Have you been able to discipline them? They set up a reconciliation committee. What has been the report? What has been the outcome of the reconciliation committee, what have they done?
“If there is no offense, there can’t be punishment. Some people have committed offense in this case. So what has the party been doing?
“Everywhere, all over now, everybody, the majority opinion is that why Minister Wike has not been punished for coming out to admit that he worked against the party and still going to do that.
“He’s still there today. The governors’ forum meeting, to me, is just a gathering of compromise rather than gardening of strategy because the expectations of the party faithful were so high.
“They thought these governors would sit down and look at those germain issues, those front burners, and address them, and take hard decisions on them,” he stated.
